The rates are a little high, but this is a very pleasant and clean urban park in a nice little Utah town. It is very convenient to the national parks Zion, Bryce, and Cedar Breaks. We canceled a night at Bryce and stayed a third night at the KOA because of the convenience and atmosphere, and just drove over to Bryce (scenic 90 minutes), stopping also at Red Rock Canyon and Navajo Lake. Nice grassy, level sites, clean bathrooms and mature shade trees. We found it very pleasant and quiet despite what some campers have posted, and would return next time we're in the area.

A surprisingly busy park in 112 degrees...but tightly run, clean and pleasant. It is very convenient to the Strip, and although no shuttle service is available, the drive is not far and parking is free at the casinos. We chose a "standard" site, which was on the periphery of the park, with no picnic table. Although there are small, new trees, the sites are generally not shaded, and we were actually glad to be in a site shaded at times by a huge condo complex next door. The two saltwater pools were a great feature; those not wanting to be splashed by kids can opt for the adult pool. Dog friendly, with numerous runs, if you are a responsible owner...posted $50 fine for not cleaning up after your dog and interestingly, a $25 reward for any camper reporting such. Security verifies that your sewer hookup is appropriate.

This campground is 1/2 mile from Zion. The Springdale shuttle is very, very convenient and the pickup/drop off spot is right next door. I can't recommend the shuttle enough; runs very frequently (every 7-10 minutes when we were there) and is a great, green, way to see Zion and visit Springdale. You are dropped off in a parking lot next to Zion, and you walk over a bridge to enter. The campground is run loosely. Bathroom cleanliness was hit and miss. Sites were dirt/gravel, but level and adequate in size for our TT. They do try to utilize all space; our site was set up to face the site next to us(so 2 sites share a hookup post), which is a little unusual in this day and age. Lots of tenter's on the river, but there is access besides the tenter's' sites. We wished we'd brought tubes to enjoy the river beyond just wading, as it was hot, hot, hot. The sites were shady, which was very welcome. Overall the campground was OK, but next time we may base in Cedar City, which is convenient to Zion, Cedar Breaks, Bryce and Brians Head.

This was our first experience at Dead Horse State Park, but we'll be back! The arid, desert campsites are spacious and clean, and the AZ views can't be beat! At night we were serenaded by coyotes and could view the mountainside lights of Jerome in the distance. Sunrise lit the mountains beautifully, and there are nicely marked walking trails. Next time we'll bring our mountain bikes. Bathrooms were spotless (although bring your own soap)! Staff and campers are friendly. Dead Horse is a good location for visiting Page Springs wineries.

Since most AZ state parks don't use a reservation system, we were a little worried about getting a spot in this popular park. But, since we visited a couple weeks before the Gem Show in Tucson, we had no problem getting a campsite. We hear that it's difficult to get a spot during Gem Show time. The sites are spacious and the entire park is great. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. There is plenty of shopping close to the park, yet you don't feel at all like you're near an urban area once inside the park. As we brought an elderly dog with us, we didn't hike the plentiful trails, but we plan to next time.
